The Difference Between Metro 2 & Factual Disputing!

May 10, 20231 min read

Metro 2 compliance and factual disputing are two distinct concepts related to credit reporting.

Metro 2 compliance refers to the guidelines established by the Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA) for reporting credit data to credit reporting agencies (CRAs). These guidelines ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency in credit reporting. To comply with Metro 2 guidelines, creditors, lenders, and other data furnishers must follow specific procedures for reporting consumer credit data to CRAs, including identifying the consumer, reporting account information accurately and completely, and maintaining accurate records.

Factual disputing, on the other hand, is a process by which consumers can dispute inaccurate information on their credit reports. When a consumer disputes an item on their credit report, the CRA is required to investigate and either verify or remove the disputed information. Factual disputing involves providing evidence that the disputed item is inaccurate, such as bank statements or other documentation.

While Metro 2 compliance is a set of guidelines for data furnishers to follow when reporting credit data to CRAs, factual disputing is a process by which consumers can challenge inaccurate information on their credit reports. In other words, Metro 2 compliance ensures that the data furnishers are reporting credit data accurately and completely, while factual disputing provides a mechanism for consumers to correct errors or inaccuracies that may have been reported by data furnishers.

It is important to note that factual disputing can be used to challenge inaccuracies in credit reports that may result from non-compliance with Metro 2 guidelines. However, the two concepts are distinct and serve different purposes in the credit reporting process.
